About Us

At Story College Church, we strive to emulate the love of the early church community described in the Bible. We believe in the importance of authentic relationships, devoted prayer, and generous hearts - and eating a lot of home-cooked food.

"And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts..."

Acts 2:46 (ESV)

Our Story

In 2021, a group of 27 college ministers (and 5 kids!) from Acts2 Network (formerly Gracepoint Ministries) moved from Berkeley, California, to University City with the vision of planting an Acts 2 community for college students in Philadelphia.
‍
Why? Because we want college students everywhere to experience what we experienced in college. Many of us weren't Christians growing up but became convinced Christianity is true in college. Others grew up religious, but didn't find God or the Bible relevant until we were college students. But all of us encountered Jesus personally and were transformed as we experienced life as He intended - closely connected to him and to others.

Being in college - that season of life when you're figuring out who you are and what you're doing with your life - was a key part of our spiritual journey. And we hope it will be for yours, too!

Our Statement of Faith

Story College Church is a local evangelical Protestant church committed to boldly sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Our Community

Christian life isn't limited to just going to Sunday gatherings. Instead, we share daily life, cook, hang out, work hard to serve others, and have fun, together - like a spiritual family.

Meet John and Helen!

John and Helen Cai lead Story College Church. Prior to Philly, they helped plant three churches across the country. John also served as a missionary in Taiwan before getting married!

John grew up going to church, but didn't really consider ministry as a part of his own life. In college, he studied Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He also found an awesome church family that challenged him to personally share the gospel with others.

Helen grew up an atheist, yet learned about Christianity through friends and reading the Bible as a teenager. Right before college, she committed her life to sharing about Jesus. In college, she studied Comparative Literature, with a focus on Hebrew and Chinese literature.

Today, they love sharing about Jesus, raising their two girls, and cooking lots of great food for new students together!

Our Ministry Mentors

Having a mentor just a couple steps ahead of you is an important part of Christian life. All of our volunteer mentors are covocational - meaning they're full-time college ministers, who are also full-time software engineers, healthcare professionals, grad students, and more.
